Full Form of BDC: Block Development Council

BDC Stands for Block Development Council. BDC is a type of government organization that mainly executes the works related to the development works of the block and the Panchayat planning.

In fact, BDCs are selected by the state government to communicate directly with the rural people and through BDCs, the works related to the development of village panchayats are carried out.

Work of BDC

As the head of the Block Development Committee, the Block Pramukh is elected by the Gram Panchayats. As part of the settlement with the Block Development Council, the village’s development works will be presented.

Such as roads, hand pumps, pucca houses, hospitals, drainage work, poverty alleviation, etc., along with issues pertaining to social welfare.

The election process of BDC

In accordance with Article 243 of the Constitution of India, the Election Commission of the State Government conducts the election of the principal member of the BDC in a very simple and straightforward manner.

Gram Sabha members vote for the BDC chief through ballot papers. Candidate nominations for the BDC election must come from any one ward.

BDC’s candidate wins the election in that ward. After the election, the winning candidate becomes the chief of the BDC. A Gram Panchayat can have more than one BDC head.

Qualification for BDC Head

BDC head candidates do not require any qualifications, but at least a fifth-grade diploma is required. BDC head candidates should be residents of the village falling under their Gram Panchayat if they are running from that village.

Documents Required for BDC Head:

You must have the following documents to head the BDC under the Block Development Council.

  • Aadhar card of the candidate
  • Residence certificate of the candidate
  • The candidate’s name should appear on the Gram Sabha voter list.
  • The caste certificate (if applicable)
  • Self attested affidavit from the candidate
  • Candidate’s PAN Card
  • Candidate’s ration card
  • Mobile number of the candidate
  • Character certificate of the candidate
  • Candidate’s bank passbook

Salary for BDC Post:

BDC posts are government positions. Different states may have different salaries for the same job. Salaries for BDCs are determined by state governments. the average monthly salary for Kshetra Panchayat members and BDCs is between $4,500 and $4,800.

Tenure of BDC :

The tenure of BDC is also 5 years like that of Zilla Panchayat, Zilla Parishad, Gram Panchayat and Gram Sabha.

A 30% reservation system has been implemented by state governments for women in BDC elections. Women have therefore participated in the elections in large numbers. This has improved and strengthened the status of women in rural areas.
