The Full Form of CLAT: Common Law Admission Test

CLAT Stands for Common Law Admission Test. It is a national-level entrance exam conducted by the Consortium of National Law Universities. After passing CLAT, you can get admission to 22 National Law Universities and other top law colleges in the country, after which you can make a better career in law. CLAT exam is conducted on two levels-

  • CLAT UG: CLAT UG is conducted for enrollment in graduate-level courses (like BA LLB). 12th pass students from any stream can appear in this entrance exam.
  • CLAT PG: CLAT PG is conducted for admission to post-graduation (master) level courses like MA LLB. Students who have passed graduation from any stream can appear in this entrance exam.

Eligibility for CLAT Exam

  • Educational Qualification: It is recommended that candidates belonging to the General / OBC / PWD / NRI / PIO / OCI categories obtain at least 45% marks in 10+2 or its equivalent examination. In the case of SC/ST candidates, the percentage is 40%.
  • Education Qualification for Postgraduate: For eligibility to apply to the CLAT postgraduate examination, candidates must have an LLB degree or its equivalent with at least 50%. The appropriate percentage for SC/ST candidates is 45%.
  • Age Limit: It is not necessary to have a certain age to appear in UG or PG CLAT exam.
  • Reservation for Clat: It has also reserved seats in Clat examination for students of backward classes. If you have any form of reservation certificate, please include it while applying. We have reserved seats for students of scheduled castes and tribes.

CLAT Exam Pattern 

CLAT exam will be conducted in offline mode. Objective-type questions (MCQ) are asked in an examination of a total duration of 2 hours. The candidate is given one part for every correct answer and 0.25 marks are deducted for the wrong answer.

The exam is conducted at two levels, UG and PG, for this exam, the syllabus of both the undergraduate exam and the post-graduate exam is slightly different.

  • CLAT Undergraduate Exam Pattern: A total of 150 objective-type questions (MCQs) are asked in this exam, which is of two hours. Each question carries one mark and negative marks are also awarded for one wrong question which is 0.25 marks for each question. The entrance test will be on an OMR sheet.

CLAT Exam Application Fee

The application fee for the CLAT exam is paid online, and this fee is non-refundable, it is different for all categories of candidates like

  • General / OBC / PWD / NRI / PIO / OCI Candidates : Rs. 4,000/-.
